Here’s what to expect, whether you’re planning for yourself or helping someone you love.
Do you only plan, or can you help with products and next steps?
We can help with both. After planning together, you may want advice on products or help ordering select accessibility hardware. If a contractor or a physical or occupational therapist is the right next step, we help with the handoff so you have somewhere to begin.
Is the home consultation free?
The first conversation is free. It’s a chance to explain what’s happening and decide whether a home consultation would be useful. The consultation itself has a fee based on what you need, and we’ll go over it with you before anything is booked.
What does a home consultation include?
We look at the home and how you use it, then develop a prioritized plan of what to handle first. That may include entrances, bathrooms, stairs, lighting, and everyday tasks that have become difficult. We’ll agree on the scope with you before booking.
Where do you work in person?
We visit homes in Greater Charlotte. If you’re not sure whether your address is in our visit area, just ask.
Can you help if we live elsewhere?
Yes. From anywhere, you can arrange a remote home review by video and receive a prioritized plan. We’ll talk through how to show us your home and what you’ll need before booking.
Can a family member join or contact you on my behalf?
Of course. A family member or someone you trust can join, including from another city. If you’re getting in touch for someone else, we’ll keep their wishes and preferences at the center of the conversation.
Do we need to be planning a renovation?
No. You may simply want to make the home you have easier to use. A handrail, better lighting, or a different handle may be worth considering before you think about a larger project. The consultation helps you weigh the options.
What does universal design mean?
Universal design considers how spaces can work for people with different needs and abilities. In a home, that might mean handles that are easier to operate, a more accessible entrance, or better-placed controls. The aim is to make everyday use part of the design.
What does CAPS mean?
CAPS stands for Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist. Meredith Dignan holds this designation and brings that training to the way she considers your home and the changes you’re planning.
How much does a consultation cost?
The fee depends on the scope of the consultation. Start with a short, free conversation about your home and what you need; we’ll explain the work and its cost before you decide to book.
